Chiefs could save nearly $3 million by cutting Butker
But the move would still leave a hole in their salary cap
The Kansas City Chiefs could save nearly $3 million by cutting kicker Harrison Butker ahead of the 2023 season, but the move would still leave a hole in their salary cap.
Butker is set to count for $5.105 million against the Chiefs' salary cap in 2023, which is on pace to be the seventh-highest cap number for a kicker in the NFL.
The Chiefs could save $2.9 million by cutting Butker, but they would still be on the hook for $2.205 million in dead money.
Butker signed a five-year, $20.275 million contract with the Chiefs in 2019, including a $3.5 million signing bonus and $9.1 million guaranteed.
For the 2023 season, the contract earns Butker a base salary of $3.55 million, alongside a roster bonus of $100,000 and a workout bonus of $50,000.
